Adopting an eco-friendly or organic beauty regime doesn’t have to be at the sacrifice of quality products. In fact, the results behind some of these brands will make you wonder why you hadn’t gone green earlier. We’ve rounded up some of the best sustainable skincare brands which prove that eco-friendly, vegan and natural skincare formulas can be truly effective.
Inspired by Morocco’s best kept beauty secrets, Inka Botanicals combine years of scientific research with the ancient art of aromatherapy. The result is a therapeutic skincare regime that favours both body and soul. Founder Hourea Alaoui explains her desire to “create an authentic Moroccan skincare brand that gives back to the community.” All of their ingredients are sourced from the Atlas mountains and are certified by ECOCERT. such as its multi-tasking hero product, Moroccan Argan Oil. Indigenous to the forests of Morocco, Argan oil is particularly rich in Vitamin E (150% more than olive oil on average) and essential fatty acids which are paramount for healthy hair, skin and nails, and recognised for its nourishing and anti-ageing properties.
Inka Botanical’s gorgeous glass packaging is made from European glass and is fully recyclable.
Baiobay skincare products use the natural healing properties of coconut oil as the base of their vegan formulas. All products are certified Natural & Organic by Cosmos Ecocert and their compositions are clean (Yuka: 100/100). We love its Face & Lips Scrub made from Coconut Oil and Bamboo Stem Extract, which gently exfoliates dead skin cells from the surface to help restore soft, smooth and radiant skin.
The company pays great care to reducing its impact and all packaging is made from recyclable or compostable materials with vegetable-based inks. Not only do Baiobay donate 1% of their revenue to the environmental organization 1% For The Planet, it also plants a tree for every product purchased.
OPPIDUM is a luxury skincare brand based in southwest France manufacturing 100% natural and Cosmos Organic certified soaps and cosmetics. Research, formulation, production and packaging are all carried out in its in-house lab-workshop with great emphasis on the highest quality raw materials, scientific knowledge and traditional practices.
An excellent example of this can be found in its Vital Eye Sap, which combines rare oils enriched with the precious butter of Copoazu with the repairing virtues of five natural tree resins. The result is an ultra-high quality serum that plumps, tones and protects the delicate eye area whilst relaxing and illuminating the eye contour all in one.
Irene Forte Skincare
Irene Forte Skincare extracts the powerful properties of natural ingredients from its Sicilian farm to make effective, everyday products that work wonders. Its formulas are crafted from the centuries-old groves where over 2,000 olive trees and 3,000 orange trees grow alongside pomegranates, almonds and prickly pears. As the days turn warmer, we never leave the house without Irene’s SPF 50 Sun Cream UVA+UVB, made from a powerful blend of omega-rich natural oils including olive, sunflower and avocado, alongside antioxidant-rich Calendula and Vitamin E.
Although not officially certified, the 33-strong product range is 100% vegan as well as sustainable and organic. Irene Forte Skincare is currently seeking official vegan accreditation and has already been recognised by Positive Luxury for its sustainable excellence. 90% of its products are also packaged in glass and post-consumer recycled plastic is used for the remaining 10%.
Based in Barcelona, Hurtig Lane is a 100% vegan and cruelty-free accessories brand, spirited by minimalist style and quality design. It predominantly focuses on watches but it has a growing beauty offering definitely worth exploring, including a Pink Clay Mask that has become one of our staple beauty items. Made from Australian clay that is naturally high in Silicia, Zinc and Magnesium, this miracle recipe draws out impurities, minimises the appearance of pores and reduces inflammation, all whilst locking in moisture.
Hurtig Lane has also delved into the world of beauty tools with its makeup brush offering, which includes an Eye & Brow Set, a Blush Set and a full Makeup Brush Set comprised of eleven different brushes, for the true makeup aficionado. All are hand-crafted from sustainably sourced wood and synthetic nylon bristles, and are 100% vegan and cruelty-free.
WA:IT is a sustainable botanical beauty brand and a symbiosis between Japanese and Italian culture, blending the former’s love of harmony and natural affinity with the vitality and Mediterranean warmth of the latter. All formulations are made from 100% natural ingredients and free from synthetics, GMOs, toxins, parabens, petro-chemicals, sulphates, artificial fragrances. A favourite of ours is the OMNI Glowing Oil, a non-greasy multitasking oil for body, face and hair, and the OFURO Cleansing Balm, which purifies the skin of any dirt or smog and carefully prepares it for treatments to come.
WA:IT’s packaging is entirely recyclable and biodegradable and In 2021, it became the first European Beauty Brand to attain carbon negative status, making it a true pioneer in the wellness industry.
